In the two major earthquakes of 25 April and 12 May 2015, the Sertshang Orphanage Home was very lucky.  All the children and staff of the orphanage were uninjured.  The boys' house was slightly damaged, the girls' house was more damaged.  All the damage was able to be repaired completely thanks to a generous donation from the municipality of Wohlen (Switzerland).

The water supply was also damaged, but happily was able to be repaired after just a few days.  Thus there was not only enough water for the orphanage, but also water could be also provided for the neighborhood population.  During a one-month period the children, together with the home director, lived in a tent in the garden of the orphanage and cooked their meals on wood.  During this difficult period, when the schools were closed, Methok, the home director, was supported by Choegyal Rinpoche’s students.

«We will make our contribution towards rebuilding Nepal», wrote Choegyal Rinpoche after the earthquake.  Together with the older children he took advantage of the school break to be able to help people in the countryside where the effects of the quake were strongest. They brought relief supplies to villages, some of which could only be reached by a long walk on foot.  The luggage included not only food and other urgently needed supplies, but also colored pencils and paper.  During their mission, they also played and made things with the homeless and traumatized children for a whole day.  Eight children, who had lost their parents during the earthquake, found a new family in the Sertshang Orphanage Home.

The Sertshang Orphanage Home experienced great  solidarity and support.
